The first dissemination event of the ALBATROS project (EU-funded) was successfully held in September 2025. The virtual gathering (Webex) convened a well-attended and highly qualified core group of aviation specialists, authorities, research institutes, and industrial stakeholders, confirming the project’s critical role in advancing sector safety and resilience.

The two-hour session saw approximately 45 key specialists and attendees, including representatives from major international organizations such as NLR, ONERA, DLR, Pipistrel, JAATO, FMI, and Aegean Airlines, alongside authorities like the BEA (France) and the European Commission (DG RTD). The strong and sustained engagement, coupled with the diverse composition of the audience, underscored the high relevance of the crucial topics discussed.

Focus on the Pillars of Future Aviation Safety

The technical agenda was comprehensive, focusing on presenting preliminary results and insights derived from validation activities across four critical areas:

  1. Safe Integration of Hydrogen and New Energy Systems: PIPISTREL and NLR presented technical insights into the risks associated with hydrogen introduction and early detection systems to enhance survivability. Following this, ONERA and PIPISTREL addressed risk management specifically for electric aircraft.
  2. Innovative Cockpit HMI: DLR showcased innovations in Human-Machine Interface (HMI), specifically validated for future hydrogen-powered aircraft cockpits.
  3. Emergency Response and Ground Operations: This essential segment, led by ENSOSP, NLR, AEGEAN, and JAA, shared operational lessons learned from field exercises (Demo 13), highlighting the increasingly critical role of drone integration in airport emergency response procedures.
  4. Climate Resilience and Infrastructure: NLR concluded the technical talks by presenting models developed to enhance the resilience of airport infrastructure against the growing impacts of climate change.

The global significance of ALBATROS’s efforts was evidenced by the attendance of stakeholders beyond European borders, such as Nepal Airlines. This international participation underscores how ALBATROS’s solutions for safety and sustainability are viewed as an essential model for global aviation.
