The consortium met in Amsterdam to mark a turning point β from research to real-world demonstrations bringing resilient and sustainable aviation closer to reality.
π Reading time: 4 minutes
The Third Annual Meeting of the ALBATROS Project took place from 1β2 October 2025 at NLRβs headquarters in Amsterdam, marking a decisive step from research and system design toward validation and demonstration.
Over two days, technical partners, regulators, and operational stakeholders reviewed progress across all six work packages β from hydrogen survivability studies and decision-support systems for crisis management to training for emergency response and climate-resilient airport operations.
π Key outcomes and insights
The discussions reflected a clear transition in ALBATROS:
-
From concept to operational validation. Core methodologies developed in earlier phases β such as risk modelling, HMI innovation, and hydrogen safety analysis β are now being integrated and tested in realistic environments.
-
From isolated domains to cross-sector collaboration. Safety intelligence, resilience modelling, and emergency management are being linked across air and ground operations to build an interoperable framework.
-
From research to readiness. The consortium is now aligning its communication, training, and exploitation plans to ensure that validated solutions are prepared for future regulatory and operational uptake.
This systemic approach β connecting 21 organisations from research, industry, and civil aviation β is what makes ALBATROS a reference case for the future of safe, hybrid-electric, and hydrogen-powered aviation.
π¬ A turning point for the project
βThe third yearly meeting marks an important milestone for ALBATROS. Over the past year, the consortium has moved from concept development to validation, translating our research on safety intelligence, survivability and decision support into tangible demonstrations across Europe.
The collaboration between research institutes, airports, industry and regulators is showing how innovation and safety can go hand in hand as aviation transitions towards hydrogen and hybrid-electric operations. Iβm proud of the commitment of all partners in ensuring that the next generation of aviation will be not only sustainable, but also resilient and safe.β

π« Ready for the airport demonstrations
With the yearly meeting concluded, ALBATROS is entering one of its most exciting phases. In the coming months, the project will conduct three airport demonstration campaigns β Demo 2, Demo 4, and Demo 14 β testing the integrated solutions developed for crisis management, emergency response, and hydrogen safety.
These real-world exercises will demonstrate how ALBATROS technologies and procedures can enhance aviation resilience in an era of climate challenges and new energy systems.
