Project Description
Galactic cosmic rays typically follow established patterns, yet occasionally the data reveals a surprise.
This new study reports the discovery of a New Anisotropic Cosmic-Ray Enhancement (ACRE) which represents only the third event of its kind ever documented.
Observed on 5 November 2023, this anomaly reached high rigidities of up to 8 GV. The analysis suggests it was driven by cosmic rays scattering off an interplanetary flux rope rather than a typical geomagnetic storm effect.
For ALBATROS, these rare instances are invaluable as they expose current modeling limitations and help us refine radiation warning systems for aviation.
