Project Description

“Sub-GLEs” are subtle solar particle events, typically visible only to high-altitude polar detectors. Until recently, very few had ever been identified.

In this study, our partners at FMI and the University of Alcalá analyzed historical archives from Antarctic stations to find two previously unknown events from 1968 and 1969.

For ALBATROS, expanding the catalog of these borderline events is crucial. It helps us better define the lower thresholds of radiation risk and ensures our detection systems do not miss “quiet” but significant particle fluxes.
